COURSE: N1 – N3: MOTOR/DIESEL MECHANICS
The N1 to N3 National Certificates in the Motor Mechanics programme caters for students who would like to study any of the following engineering subjects:
- Motor Mechanic
- Motor Mechanic General
- Automotive Motor Mechanic
- Diesel Mechanic
In the current system for Motor Mechanics, you need at least an N2 with four subjects to do your trade test. If you want to be employed as an apprentice, all companies require an N2 with Mathematics and Engineering Science marks above 40%.
What will I be qualified as once I’ve completed this course?
Your N2 Certificate will allow you the opportunity to become an apprentice. After three years you will qualify as a motor mechanic, once you have completed your apprenticeship and passed your trade test.

What will I be able to do?
Take up a position in Motor Mechanics or you can work in the motor trade in Parts Sales, Motor Sales, etc.
In which industries will I be able to work?
Any Motor and diesel industries.
What could I do to further improve my skills and my chances of furthering my career?
You can study part-time (night classes) to study further and obtain a National N-Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Once you have passed your N6 Certificate, and provided that your marks in the N-subjects are above 60%, you can further your studies at an institution of Higher Education, such as a University or University of Technology.

All examinations are external (national).
Admission Requirements
N1: Minimum of Grade 9 with Mathematics and Science above 50%
N2: N1 or equivalent with the four appropriate subjects or Grade 10 with Maths and Science
N3: N2 or equivalent with the four appropriate subjects or Grade 10 with Maths and Science
How do I get an apprenticeship to allow me entry into this course?
A company employs you as an apprentice if you have completed an N2 certificate and you have the necessary qualification, you can enrol to study the N3 Certificate course and onwards.
Duration
1 year full-time (each level is 12 weeks)
When can I enroll?
Enrolment in January, May or September
Part Time studies
Only offered when sufficient students register. Alternatively correspondence is also an option.

Submission
Option 1: Complete the online ‘Contact us Form’ and one of the iCALC staff members will contact you.
Option 2: Complete the ‘Registration Form’ and email your form to mylene@icalcta.co.za, along with all supporting documents.
Option 3: Come to our campus and let us help you fill in all the forms.
Verification:
The submission is checked, and all supporting documentation is verified.
Registration:
Successful applicants will be required to pay the registration fee and first installment or deposit to finalize their registration.
The Registration is then captured and submitted, and your student number will then be issued.
