COURSE: N1 – N3: CIVIL ENGINEERING
The N1 to N3 National Certificates in the Building and Civil Engineering programme covers all the trades in Building and Civil-related industries.
What will I be qualified as once I’ve completed this course?
The holder of a National N1 – N3 Certificate in Building and Civil engineering will be able to take up employment in one of the following fields:
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying
- Plumbing
- Painting
- Wood machinist and joinery
- Specialised field in the industry (roofing, tiling, glazing, cabinetmaking, waterproofing, trainee draughtsperson)
- Civils
- Road and Stormwater drainage
What will I be able to do?
Take up a position as an apprentice or learner technician to gain the necessary industrial experience to be able to do a trade test.
In which industries will I be able to work?
Any industry or organisation that requires a person with Building and Civil-related qualifications.
What could I do to further improve my skills and my chances of furthering my career?
Achieving the necessary entry requirements at academic level in N3 of this course will enable you to continue studying the N4 – N6 Certificates and ultimately obtain the National N-Diploma. Alternatively, the N4 Certificate with Mathematics and Engineering Science also gives access to enter Higher Education at a University of Technology should you meet the entry requirements for that institution.

All examinations are external (national).
Admission Requirements
N1: Minimum of Grade 9 with Mathematics and Science above 50%
N2: N1 or equivalent with the four appropriate subjects or Grade 10 with Maths and Science
N3: N2 or equivalent with the four appropriate subjects or Grade 10 with Maths and Science
How do I get an apprenticeship to allow me entry into this course?
You must be a registered apprentice with a company/mine or some other accredited organisation
Duration
1 year full-time (each level is 12 weeks)
When can I enroll?
Enrolment in January, May or September
Part Time studies
Only offered when sufficient students register. Alternatively correspondence is also an option.

Submission
Option 1: Complete the online ‘Contact us Form’ and one of the iCALC staff members will contact you.
Option 2: Complete the ‘Registration Form’ and email your form to mylene@icalcta.co.za, along with all supporting documents.
Option 3: Come to our campus and let us help you fill in all the forms.
Verification:
The submission is checked, and all supporting documentation is verified.
Registration:
Successful applicants will be required to pay the registration fee and first installment or deposit to finalize their registration.
The Registration is then captured and submitted, and your student number will then be issued.
